After initial statements regarding the Hamas attacks on Israel, Senate President Ty Masterson (R-Andover) and Speaker Dan Hawkins (R-Wichita) issued a joint statement on Friday, October 13, proclaiming their support of Israel and their condemnation of all forms of antisemitism.

“On behalf of the Kansas Legislature, we stand united and unwavering in our support of Israel as it aggressively defends itself against the horrific and unprovoked atrocities against innocent civilians–including women, children, and babies–that occurred on October 7th. Since our initial statements one week ago, the magnitude of the terrorist attack has only intensified as the number of dead and wounded climbs daily.

“We reiterate that Israel has an absolute right to use every tool in its arsenal to bring those responsible to justice and to ensure that terrorism can never again be inflicted on the Jewish community. To that end, we call upon the Biden Administration to use all measures to make it clear the United States government stands in full support of our Israeli allies in their war on Hamas terrorists and other evil actors who assisted them in their barbarism.”

They conclude the statement by saying they “repudiate and condemn all forms of antisemitism” at home and abroad. They further stated that they give their deepest condolences and prayers to the victims, hostages, and their families. They also stated they stand with Israel with “steadfast commitment and heartfelt empathy.”

This comes after the joint statement by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly and Attorney General Kris Kobach on this issue.
