KSHB 41 publishes ironic ATF article

KSHB 41, a popular news source in both Kansas and Missouri, published an ironic article on Wednesday, May 31 regarding the Kansas City Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

In the article, they talk to Senior investigator for Kansas City ATF’s Field Division John Ham, who told the news organization that “theft of firearms from personal vehicles” is a major current trend in Kansas City.

“Particularly outside of entertainment districts, sporting venues, places where firearms are not allowed to be carried in the state of Missouri,” Ham said. “Those parking lots have become real targets for criminals to break in, looking primarily for firearms.”

Setting aside the ATF’s biggest failure, the 1993 Waco siege, the ATF has routinely had to go before Congress for their failures, including having to answer for hiring intellectually disabled people to run phony gun shops as part of sting operations.

The biggest irony, however, comes from the fact that the ATF has historically acted against the constitution when it comes to the second amendment. It even says on the ATF government website, “In addition to aiding the enforcement of Federal requirements for gun purchases, compliance inspections of existing licensees focus on assisting law enforcement to identify and apprehend criminals who illegally purchase firearms.” Obviously, it’s no surprise that the government loves to impede on the free market and steal people’s property. The ATF was literally created by the government to do just this. So, the fact that the senior investigator for Kansas City ATF’s Field Division is talking about about criminals stealing firearms comes off, at least to me, as a bit tone-deaf.
