PR: KBRC calls for KSGOP Chairman to show accountability and bold leadership: Remove architects of divisive & controversial rule change
WICHITA – The Kansas Black Republican Council (KBRC) demands immediate and decisive action from Kansas GOP Chairman Mike Brown, who has shown tepid responses to the shocking proposed rule change to boot Black leadership from the Kansas GOP. Despite the Chair’s recommendation for the Rules Committee to reconsider, both the Rules Committee Chair Bryant Anderson and the proposed rule change sponsor remain steadfast in pursuing their divisive agenda. Therefore, Chairman Brown must promptly remove both the Rules Chair and its sponsor to restore faith and integrity within the Kansas Republican Party.
In April, the Kansas GOP Rules Committee proposed stripping leadership from the KBRC, GOP Associations, and elected Republican leaders within the party apparatus. Despite widespread condemnation from Republicans in Kansas and nationwide, Chairman Brown evaded responsibility for his appointed committee’s alarming action and supported advancing the proposed rule change for final consideration. While Chairman Brown made a tepid recommendation for reconsideration, the Rules Chairman and proposal sponsor have displayed no willingness to abandon their damaging agenda.
“Bold, Conservative Leadership is more than a ‘recommendation to reconsider’ a rule that rips apart the very fabric of the Republican Party,” said Michael Austin, Chairman of the Kansas Black Republican Council. “It means taking responsibility for our actions and the actions of those we appoint. Chairman Brown must uphold the principles he campaigned on by promptly removing his appointed Rules Chair and the proposal sponsor from their positions to ensure such shortsighted and destructive ideas will never be entertained again.”
The failure to adequately address this proposed rule change carries grave repercussions, including crippling fundraising, waning candidate interest, and a cascade of electoral defeats at the local, state, congressional, and even presidential levels. Time is running out. The Kansas GOP stands on the precipice of a defining moment, it needs swift action to save the party’s reputation and future.
The KBRC remains determined to empower African Americans through Republican principles. We stand ready to work alongside Republicans to restore trust, bridge divides, and reaffirm our shared commitment to a stronger and united Republican Party.
